What is Counselling?

At certain times in life we can all feel overwhelmed, unhappy, lonely, anxious, depressed, or simply we may feel ‘stuck’ and unable to see a way forward.

Counselling can provide you with a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space in which you can speak freely, be heard and supported to make positive changes within your life, your relationships and yourself. The counselling process can support you to develop self-awareness, increase self-esteem and to look at your whatever issues are causing you difficulty from a new perspective and from a deeper understanding.

Seeking counselling for the first time can seem extremely daunting and so I aim to offer a relaxed and compassionate relationship in which you can simply be yourself. Counselling is a commitment, a commitment to taking some time just for you each week. I am passionate about what I do and firmly believe in the positive benefits counselling can encourage. Whether you are dealing with difficult life transitions, grief, illness, anxiety, low self-esteem, sadness or simply would like someone to talk to who won’t judge you and will listen, perhaps counselling is the next step for you.

My Approach

I use an Integrative Counselling approach. This means that I may draw on several different counselling theories and techniques, depending on what suits you as an individual. I don’t believe one counselling theory works for everyone. Models I may use in our work together include; Person-centred Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Counselling, Solution focussed therapy, Compassion focused therapy, Creative therapy and Mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques.

I believe the counselling sessions should be as collaborative as possible and together we can find the ways of working that are most beneficial to you and your specific issues.

Issues I work with include;
